Marcel Eldon Yonce, 70, of Sedalia, passed from his earthly life into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father while surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 28, 2012. He was born September 8, 1941, in Sedalia, a son of the late Fred O. and Elsie Irene (Williams) Yonce. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Jordan at East Sedalia Baptist Church on May 27, 1962. To this union were born two sons, Marcel Cayle and Chad Alan. Marcel grew up in Sedalia and graduated from Smith Cotton High School in 1959. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from April 7, 1966 until February 7, 1970, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was stationed at Columbus AFB, MS, and served six months at Andersen AFB, Guam. He accepted Christ as Savior and was baptized on May 8, 1949, at East Sedalia Baptist Church. He was ordained as a deacon on September 14, 1975. He also served the church as Training Union Director and taught a men's Sunday School class. In 1980, he and his friend Ron Acklin formed the Royal Ambassador group at First Baptist Church, Sedalia. He remained active in church and continued to serve as a deacon at Bethlehem Baptist Church until the time of his death. He received a business mid-management degree from State Fair Community College in 1978. Marcel worked as a production scheduler for Alcan Cable from July 7, 1970 until July 31, 1993. In 1990, he co-founded Instrumental Influence and served as Vice President until retiring in April 2005. He remained the store's "Goodwill Ambassador" until early August 2012. He was an active member of TIMPO from 1984-1990 and served as a sponsor and chaperone. He held memberships in the 40&8 Voiture 333 and American Legion Post 642. He was the Survivor Representative for the Sedalia Relay for Life's Team Shank-a-potamus for the past three years. He enjoyed volunteering with his family and numerous church friends at Forest Avenue Family Shelter. He encouraged his granddaughter, Hannah, in this ministry which she started at the age of eight. Marcel loved his family dearly. He was involved in his sons' activities as they grew up. He took great joy in spending time with his granddaughter, Hannah. Marcel also cared deeply for his church family and friends. He was a true people-person with a loving personality that naturally drew people to him. He was a man of faith and high moral character who knew how to cultivate and maintain lasting relationships. He was a hobby-farmer who raised cattle and liked to spend time in his vegetable garden. His hobbies included listening to southern gospel music, playing golf, watching NASCAR, and most of all, fishing in his pond.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn Yonce, of the home; a son, Marcel (Cayle) Yonce, and his wife, Lisa, of Sedalia; a granddaughter, Hannah Yonce, of Sedalia; a brother, Verlin Yonce, of Blue Springs; two brothers-in-law, Luther Jordan, of Warsaw, and David Jordan, and his wife, Anita, of Sedalia; two sisters-in-law, Rosalee Jordan and Sharon Yonce, both of Sedalia; four uncles, Wayne Yonce, and his wife, Shirley, of Wichita, KS, Gordon Yonce, and his wife, Amy, of Sedalia, Otto Williams, and his wife, Susie, of Newport News, VA, and Vernon Williams, and his wife, Treva, of Tipton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Chad Alan Yonce; and a brother, Larry L. Yonce.
Funeral services were 10 am, Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Rev. Corbett Martin, Rev. Christopher Guffey and Rev. Dave Hague co-officiating. Pallbearers were Wesley Jordan, Brent Jordan, Shayne Yonce, Hartley Wright, Jason Kindle, Sonny Broyles, David Lilliard and David Sprinkle. Honorary pallbearers were Bethlehem Baptist Church deacons and wives, 40&8 Voiture 333 members, Harold Lee and Dorothy Smith, Col. Scott Land, USAF, Ret., Scott Stober, Jean Farkas, Doris Koffman, June Kuhlman, Randy Melick, Richard & Linda Simon, Jerry & Terry Welch, Cris Davis, Carroll & Linda Howard, Mike Carver and Luke Carver. Burial followed in Crown Hill Cemetery with full military honors conducted by VFW Post 2591 and WAFB Honors Team.
