Thomas E. "Ted" Dorr
Former Steamboat Springs resident Thomas "Ted" Dorr died April 2, 2005, in Mills, Wyo., of sudden cardiac arrest. He was 64.
Ted was born March 15, 1941, in Steamboat to Elmer J. and Frances May Dorr.
Ted was a person who never knew a stranger. He was active in many clubs and organizations throughout his life. He was in the National Honor Society, was named Youth of the Week by the Record Stockman and later served as president of the Junior Colorado Cattlemen's Association.
He was a two-time state champion wrestler during his high school years. Ted graduated from Steamboat Springs High School in 1959 and attended Colorado State University, where he wrestled throughout his time there.
After graduating from CSU, Ted taught and coached at Regis High School in Denver and also in Hotchkiss and Holtville, Calif. He eventually moved to Ouray, where he worked for the Colorado Department of Transportation on Red Mountain Pass.
Ted was active in the Elks Lodge during his time in Ouray.
He moved to Sheridan, Wyo., in the mid-1990s, and more recently to Casper, Wyo.
He was married to Carol Spangler of Casper, who preceded him in death in 1990. He also was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Dorr; his stepfather, George Wheeler; a brother, Jim; and a granddaughter, Rose Dull.
Ted is survived by a son, Tom Dorr, and his wife, Susan, of Shreveport, La.; a daughter, Heather Dull, and her husband, Cecil, of Idalia; three grandchildren, Alexander Dorr and Chelby and Eddie Dull; his mother, Frances Wheeler; three sisters, Genie Brandhorst, Peggy Carpenter and Hattie Yeager; four brothers, Newton, Bob, Mike and Fred; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. July 2, 2005, at the Elk River Rendezvous in the "Dorr Tree Pasture" north of Steamboat on Routt County Road 52E. A lunch is planned after the service.
