Chester was the 10th child of Amasa Chamberlin Jr.--son of a Revolutionary War soldier, and Betsey Libbie.

He married Olive Pierce (sometimes listed as Percy) abt 1838 Franklin Co., New York. They were the parents of at least 10 children: Edna A. (Elliott, Streator), Melissa, James Madison, Isaac, Mary J., Delia "Dell" (Butterfield), Pluma (Carr), Chester P., Callie (Southwick) and Carrie A. (Potter). All the children but the youngest two girls were born in New York, Callie and Carrie in Illinois.

By 1860 he and Olive lived in Lake County, Illinois with son Chester 8, and daughters Carrie and Cally both 2. Their son James was working on the neighboring Clark farm, and Chester's brother Simon is at the next farm.

By 1878 Chester, widowed, married Lucy L. Farmer (Rhodes), also a widow, at Arlington, Van Buren, MI. She died by 1900 as Chester is widowed living in South Haven with daughter Dell Butterfield and her family.

Chester died of 'old age' at 85 years 2 months and 15 days of age, and is buried here with daughter Dell Chamberlin Butterfield's family.
