Paula Kay Theresa Stephan Olson, 71, wife of Gerald Dean "Jerry" Olson died March 25, 2011, at home in Clarksville. The daughter of Paul and Lucile Stephan, Paula was born in Davenport, IA, but spent most of her girlhood days growing up in West Chicago, Illinois. A graduate of West Chicago Community High School, she attended Northern Illinois University and graduated with a BA in Education from the University of Maryland and an MA in Education from George Mason University. Paula and Jerry raised their family in Vienna, VA, where they lived for 38 years. She was a retired teacher of English as a Second Language in Fairfax County Public Schools. Early in her career, she wrote the TOLP test to assist in placing children at the appropriate level for development of English language proficiency; the test was adopted by schools in several states and foreign countries. Upon retirement, Paula and Jerry moved full-time to Clarksville, where she enjoyed life sharing the lake and her many talents with family and friends. She was an active member of the Clarksville Ruritan Club and the Twin Rivers Garden Club where she served as president (2009-11). She also was a member of the Lady Bugg's Red Hat Club, the Investment Club, where she served as treasurer, the Craft Club of St. Catherine's Church, and worked on the Democratic Election Committee. She was a master gardener, and chaired the Clarksville Relay for Life for 3 years. A life-long learner, she was always taking classes and sharing what she learned with everyone. An avid traveler, she visited and lived in several parts of the world, and made friends wherever she went. In addition to her husband of 51 years, Paula is survived by daughter Christina Magnotti (Mike) of Vienna, VA; daughter Julie Warren (Rob) of Ipswich, MA; son Jon Olson (Cindy) of Arlington, VA; 7 grandchildren, Richard, Christopher and Heather Magnotti, Bo, Jake and Ava Warren and Freya Olson; her sister Sharon and brother-in-law Ken Bostick of Pie Town, NM; her brother-in-law Leo Michels of Bonita Springs, FL; and many adoring nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Paula was preceded in death by her sister Claire Michels and nephews Dan Hercl and Mike Crawford.
