Veteran of World War I who died in the attack on Pearl Harbor that brought the United States into World War II. He was serving aboard the USS Oklahoma, and was originally laid to rest as an unknown. Thanks to efforts by other veterans of that day, the military began reviewing medical and DNA records in the 21st century in hopes of identifying war dead and giving their loved ones an opportunity to honor their passing with full military honors. CPO Gordon was among the first sailors so identified. He was laid to rest in early 2016 in his hometown. A rosette was placed next to his name at this memorial to indicate he was found. His widow also rests in a military cemetery in San Diego, where they lived before WWII and where she continued to make her home.
