Virginia S. Appleman, 81, Graystone Court, Bellemead, formerly of Juniata, died Wednesday at Golden LivingCenter-Hillview after an extended illness.

She was born in Huntingdon, daughter of Clyde O. and Rachel (Rupert) Edelblute. She married Loy W. Appleman June 28, 1945, in Altoona. He died Nov. 9, 2003.

Surviving are a daughter, Denise Nachtman and husband, Frank, of Altoona; two sons: Richard and wife, Jane, of Boston and Lee and wife, Marylou, of Altoona; five grandchildren: Sam Appleman and wife, Kasey, and Tom Appleman and wife, Kristen, all of Boston; Lee Nachtman and wife, Stephanie, and Matthew Nachtman and wife, Erin, all of Altoona, and Natalie and husband, Jonathan Cherry, of Pittsburgh; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Barbara McIntyre of Sacramento, Calif., and Jeanette Carr of Tucson, Ariz. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Clyde Edelblute and Bill Edelblute; two half sisters: Hazel Parnell and Ethel Cree; a half brother, Clair Cree; and two stepbrothers: Ed Dunkel and George Dunkel.

She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, South Altoona.

Mrs. Appleman retired as a teacher's aide from the Altoona School District and had worked at the Uniform Gallery.

She was a graduate of Altoona High School.

Mrs. Appleman enjoyed cooking, music, gardening and being with people.

She was a volunteer at the Altoona Hospital library.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to the 4 p.m. funeral service Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto Reste Park, with Elder Jim Peters officiating. Interment at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blair County Unit, American Cancer Society.
