Cristi Curtis played collegiate volleyball at Winthrop University from 1996 to 1999 after receiving an athletic scholarship. She was a special education teacher and volleyball coach at Byron Center High School since 2003. For 2 seasons she was a volunteer volleyball coach at Hope College. She was chosen as volleyball coach at Aquinas College 3 weeks before her death.
Cristi met with an untimely and tragic end to her promising life and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Cristi Linn Curtis, aged 29, of Wyoming, Mich., was tragically taken from this world on Thursday, July 19, 2007.
Cristi was a very loving and caring person and will be missed greatly by all who knew her. Cristi graduated from Winthrop University in South Carolina, where she played NCAA Volleyball. She has been a special education teacher at Byron Center High School for the last seven years and the head volleyball coach for the last four years, also at Byron Center High School. Cristi had just accepted a coaching position at Aquinas College, where she was about to complete her masters degree.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Archie and Arlene Curtis and Merle Klingbeil.

Cristi will be greatly missed by her parents, Cheryl Curtis and Hubbard Capes and Christopher and Virginia Curtis; siblings, Benjamin and Jodi Curtis, Michael Shamblin, Stacy Debelak and Min Chu, Justin Debelak and Gina Popour and Michelle and Pete Lasley; grandparents, Roberta Klingbeil, Patricia and John Woodaz; and many aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins.

She was shot and killed by her boyfriend then he killed himself.
