Mulberry and community was sorrowed to learn of the passing of Charles W. Brand, who had been ill for the last several years. He died at the family home, four miles west of Mulberry, at 8:15 o'clock, Wednesday evening, January 12. A complication of ailments brought on by heart disease caused his death. He was 55 years of age.

Charles W. Brand was born September 28, 1882, on the farm on which he died. He was the son of Eli L. and Agnes (Muse) Brand. On September 24, 1905, he was united in marriage with Lela Friend, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Friend.

Mr. Brand became an assistant cashier of the old Citizens National Bank in 1912, and about two years later he became cashier. He held this position until 1926, when he resigned. He then became affiliated with the former Mulberry Bank & Trust Company and served as cashier of that bank until it closed its doors in March, 1930.

In August, 1931, Mr. Brand sold his property in Mulberry to Harley Peterson, and the family moved to Bloomington, where the daughter entered Indiana University. Mr. Brand was employed as bookkeeper by a coal firm in that city until repeated heart attacks forced him to retire from business and an active life.

About two years ago the family moved to the farm owned by his mother, Mrs. Agnes Brand, who made her home with her son.

Surviving are the widow, a daughter, Martha Agnes, who is teaching at Ross, Ind.; a son, Robert, living at home, and his mother.

Mr. Brand was a member of the Mulberry Masonic lodge.

The body was prepared for burial at the Kleinsmith mortuary and was removed to the home this morning - Friday. Services will be conducted at the family residence Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Israel Hatton, of Dayton, and Rev. C. J. Snyder, of Mulberry, officiating.

The pall bearers will be J. E. Flora, John Lehr, Glen Hufford, Ed Allyn, Oliver Bull, and Eugene Brand. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Stewart, of West Lafayette, will sing. A Masonic burial service will be conducted at the grave by members of the Mulberry lodge. Interment will be in the Dayton cemetery.
