She was born in Texas and came to Arizona in 1856 as one of the first two women to join the Granite Creek gold rush in Prescott, Arizona. She won her nickname according to the "Arizona Graphic" newspaper, "because of her charity and benevolence," or possibly for more jocular reasons. She settled in Gimletvill and opened a boarding house-restaurant. She died on Lynx Creek, her grave "unmarked and forgotten."
