Husband of Eva A. D'Arpini Denno
Leo J. Denno, 77, of Monroe died in Mercy Memorial Hospital. He had been in poor health six months and seriously ill for a week.
Friends called at the Rupp Funeral Home, where the Rosary was recited. Services were at the funeral home and at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Terrence Kerner, the church's pastor, officiated. Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle, under the auspices of Monroe Post 1138, Veterans of Foreigh Wars (VFW).
Born Jan. 27, 1919, in River Rouge, he was the son of Leo A. and Zita (Kean) Denno. He married Eva A. D'Arpini on July 12, 1947, in St. John Church.
He worked for the civil service at Selfridge Air Force Base in Mount Clemens for 22 years, retiring in 1979. Before that, he worked at the Air Force base on Grosse Ile and as a contractor for W.G. Snell.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army from Oct. 16, 1941, to Nov. 25, 1945. He attained the rank of staff sergeant and earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two bronze battle stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with six overseas service bars.
He was a member of St. John's Church and Monroe Post 1138, VFW, where he was an active member and past sergeant-at-arms of its burial ritual team.
Surviving are his wife, Eva; a son, Douglas J. of Temperance; two daughters, Eva J. Denno of Monroe, and Mrs. Bonnie (Jerry) Lammers
of Rockwood; three sisters, Ullaine Bezzo of Traverse City, Zity (Tweedy) Dylinski of River Rouge and Kathleen Taylor of Romulus, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Gerald, and a sister, Louelle Marvin.
