WALTER J. HAWK, 84, died at 4:20 p.m. April 8, 2005, at Lost Creek Care Center.

He was born March 5, 1921, in Allen County to Walter O. and Mabel F. Yoakam Hawk, who preceded him in death.

On July 19, 1941, he married Rowena V. Kaufman, who survives.

Mr. Hawk was retired after 40 years as a machinist for Clark Equipment. After retiring, he worked for nine years with the village of Lafayette Wastewater Treatment Plant. He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lafayette. He was a life member of Ada Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9381, a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 and the Lafayette-Jackson Historical Society. He was formerly a member of Lafayette Village Council and Lafayette Jackson Fire Department. He was a graduate of Lafayette Jackson High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a son, Phillip E. (Gerri) Hawk of Lafayette; a daughter, Diane E. (Don) Jones of Mount Sterling; two sisters, Martha Sullivan of Lima and Kathryn Smith of Delaware, Ohio; a grandson, Jim (Kim) Hawk and two great-grandchildren, Alexa and Abby Hawk.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dwight Hawk and Michael Hawk; and a sister, Betty Dowell.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Lafayette. The Rev. Larry Trover will officiate. Burial will be in Lafayette Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be performed by Ada Veterans of Foreign Wars 9381.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Lewis Chapel.
