Tom Arnold, 70, of 132 Chippewa Avenue, Manistique, Michigan passed away peacefully on August 16, 2011 at his home after an extended battle with cancer.
He was born August 27, 1940 in Thompson, Michigan the son of William and Irma (Stanley) Arnold. He graduated from Manistique High School with the Class of 1958 and later attended Austin Peay University in Clarksville, Tennessee for 2 years.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman between 1963 and 1965. On May 22, 1967 he married Margaret (Peggi) Callihan.
Tom worked on the pipeline and also as a boilermaker, but most of his career was spent with Manistique Papers where he retired as a supervisor in 1999.
He was an active member of the Elks Club where he managed the bar, and was also a long time member of the Manistique Rotary Club. He was an avid golfer, Detroit Lion fan, and enjoyed long rides through the deep woods of the Upper Peninsula. Tom was a very gifted pianist who loved entertaining his family and friends. Tom as a member of a rock band called the "Novel Tones" and played for many wedding receptions. His fondest memories came from playing with his grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his wife, Peggi Arnold of Manistique; children, Kevin Arnold of Manistique, Brett (Cindy) Arnold of Amherst, Ohio, Beth (Todd) Carlson of Manistique and G. Jason (Sherry) Arnold of Manistique; nine grandchildren; Bryan Carlson of Manistique, Samantha Carlson of Manistique, Darian Arnold of Amherst, OH, Brandon Arnold of Amherst, OH, Jacob Arnold of Manistique, Alyssa Arnold of Manistique, Meghan Arnold of Amherst, OH, Katelyn Arnold of Manistique and Devin Arnold of Manistique; one great grandchild, Karyna Carlson of Wisconsin; and one great grandson on the way, Aiden Carlson soon to be of Manistique.
He is also survived by his brother, Stan (Violet) Arnold of Menominee; sister, Joyce (Doug) Price of Gladstone; several nieces and nephews; along with special friends, Wayne and Shirley Stanley of Thompson.
Family and friends are welcome at a casual get together to celebrate Tom's life at the Manistique Elk's Temple on Thursday, August 25th, at 5:00 pm with a brief service at 6:00 pm led by family friend Gilbert Sablack.
