Passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 21, 2014. He was born on Christmas Day in 1929. Richard is survived by his daughters; Barb Abernethy (Rick Canine), Carol (Bob) Eadie and Jane Winright (James Terry). Grandchilren; Mark (Kerry) Chaffin, Mike Chaffin, Sarah (Jaymi) Keel, Kevin Winright and Bobby Eadie, 11 great grandchildren. Two brothers; Bill (Betty) Padgett and Tom (Debra) Padgett. Preceded in death by his wife, Helen.

Richard graduated in North Carolina from Thomasboro High School. He played semi-pro baseball for the N.Y. Giants Farm Club until he was drafted by the Army. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after nearly 30 years of service. Richard enjoyed playing golf, singing and going to the casinos. He loved the Detroit Tigers, the Chicago Cubs, the Michigan Wolverines and the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Mr. Abernethy is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home where services will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Galen Grulke officiating with interment at Fairview Cemetery in Parma. A luncheon will be held at the Polish Falcons at 12:30 PM.

The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM.

A special thanks to Mary Goodin and Randy for all the special things they did for dad.

In lieu of flowers contributions to the Blue Ridge Care Home or the Jackson County American Legion Ritual Team would be appreciated.
