Pvt. Archer "Archie" Watkins Coleman

Company G "Lunenburg Light Dragoons" of Lunenburg County, 9th Virginia Cavalry, W.H.F. Lee's Brigade, Fitz. Lee's Division, Cavalry, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Enrolled as a conscript, he was mustered into "G" Co. VA 9th Cavalry as a Private at Camp Lee, Richmond, VA. on 7/8/1864.
He was Surrendered on 4/9/1865 at Appomattox Court House, VA.

On 6/30/1913, 70 years old, living in Ginter Park, Henrico County, he applied for a total Confederate Disability Pension due to "persistent asthma" and "tachycardia". He was approved 9/6/1913.

The 9th Cavalry Regiment was formed in January, 1862, using the 1st Battalion Virginia Cavalry as its nucleus. Its companies were from the counties of Stafford, Caroline, Westmoreland, Lancaster, Essex, Spotsylvania, Lunenburg, King William, King George, and Richmond.

Archer Watkins Coleman, 78 years of age, resideing at 404 Chamberlayne Avenue, died at his home Monday night at 8 o'clock. Funeral services took place at his home yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Albert C. Diggs, Mrs. F. G. Simmons, Mrs. G. H. Brown, and Mrs. L. I. Coleman. He also leaves one son, Howard A. Coleman, of Nashville, Tenn.
