Petty Officer 2nd Class Brian M. Patton of Freeport, Illinois was the son of the late Robert and Janet Makarczyk Patton. He was a graduate of Stockton High School, Stockton, Ill., and held an associate's degree in criminal justice and a bachelor's degree in finance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Navy during Operation Desert Storm aboard the USS Camden. He then served in the Air Force Reserves, before returning to the U.S. Navy in 2007, where he attained the rank of master at arms, second class. He was employed as a corrections officer, first class by the State Correctional Institution at Dallas. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Stanley P. Makarczyk II and Edith Makarczyk Kelley; and an uncle, Dennis Makarczyk. He is survived by his wife of nine years, Amy Beth Hynoski Patton; sons, Brian James Patton, Nicholas Patton and stepson, Tyler Kozlofski; brothers, Robert Patton and Scott Patton; aunts, uncles and cousins. He was a prison guard at State Correctional Institution at Dallas. He died at age 37 in Kuwait in a non-combat accident.
