Appointed Postmaster of Christiansville in 1869. A Founding Father of the modern Chase City. He left Alexandria as a young man. His grandfather was George Washington's tailor. He married Elizabeth in 1834. They were charter members of the Presbyterian church in Chase City. He was on the Town Council. He conveyed the first lot in Woodland Cemetery to John Ashenhurst, whose wife was the first burial there. The cemetery was a gift from John E. Boyd to the town.
