A native of Athens, GA, Alan was the son of the late Frank and Veronica Hughes and the brother of the late Johnny Hughes. He graduated from Athens High School in 1966 and was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was in law enforcement for over 32 years and served his community well.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Jan and daughter, Bryony; two stepchildren, Zachary Richardson and wife Jessica and Meg Richardson Blake and husband Jeff; two adorable grandchildren, Kraydan and Anslie Richardson; two brothers and their wives, Ned and Dolores Hughes of Watkinsville and Jeff and Judy Hughes of Flowery Branch; three sisters, Cindy Childs and husband Jerry of Commerce, Margaret Chancey and husband Joe of Winder and Mary Perry of Commerce. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and our extended daughter, Candace Mitchell. She has always been there for us no matter what.
Pallbearers will be J.R. Garrett, Jimmy Carroll, Doug Mattocks, Mike Young, Scott Berry, Hayden Hodges, Wayne Martin and Virgil Welch. Honorary pallbearers will be Clarke County Sheriff's Office, Clarke County old and new Police Department and the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.
