He was born August 1, 1922 in Edgerly, Louisiana, the son of the late Lee and Lavada Ethel Leach Alford. Mr. Alford was a member of the Crockett Road Church of Christ. He was retired from the Texas Department of Corrections as a Sr. Warden. Mr. Alford served in the Army Air Corp during WWII and retired after 22 years of service. Mr. Alford was preceded in death by sisters, Ruba Mae Schattel, and Loretta Patton; and brother, Kenneth Lee Alford. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Maurice P. Alford; daughter, Carolyn A. Martin; son, Jimmy E. Alford and wife Jeannette; sister, Lavada Apodaca; brother, W.P. (Chubby) Alford; grandchildren, Chris Alford, Michael Martin and wife Shea, and Kelli Anne Robinson and husband Cody; and great-grandson, John Michael Martin, Jr.
