IN MEMORIAM,
Mrs. Marion (Carroll) Kirkwood, 85, of Burlington, formerly of Plainville passed away peacefully at her home with family members by her side. She was the wife of the late Thomas P. Kirkwood, Jr.
Marion was born April 5, 1929 in Bristol a daughter of the late Michael and Lillian (Holmquist) Carroll.
She was a 1947 graduate of Plainville High School where she played field hockey. Marion had worked as a bookkeeper for A&C Motors in Plainville and later Wasley Products.
She enjoyed playing cards and traveling, especially to Las Vegas, where she had gone many times with her husband and family members. Family was always important to her and she loved family get togethers particularly dining out, where she always stopped to chat and make new friends. She also loved attending her high school reunions, where she would reconnect with old friends. Marion loved all sports and was an avid fan of the UCONN women's basketball team.
Marion leaves her sons, Thomas P. Kirkwood, III and his wife Rita of Winsted and Michael J. Kirkwood and his wife Jennifer of Plainville, her daughters, Carol Kirkwood of Plainville and Karen MacDonald and her husband John of Bristol, her grandchildren, Scott and Kelly MacDonald and Evan, Colby and Tommy Kirkwood and several nieces and nephews including her special niece, Barbara Daigle and her husband Bruce of Avon. She also leaves three dear longtime friends, Mona, Marion and Reggie. Marion was predeceased by her brothers, Robert, Richard and Michael, Jr. and her sister Doris.
Funeral services for Marion will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.at the Bailey Funeral Home 48 Broad Street in Plainville.
Committal services will follow in Plainville West Cemetery. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
