Charles was past Master of the Haymarket Masonic Lodge #313, past President of the Gainesville Ruritan Club, a member of the Kena Shriners Temple in Fairfax, VA, and a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he served as church organist.
Charles had many hobbies, and was an accomplished musician, playing a number of instruments. He played with a band for many years, sharing music with anyone who wanted to listen. He enjoyed all kinds of music, both creating and listening.
Charles was a dedicated long-time blood donor.
At the time of his passing, Charles was survived by his wife, Peggy, four children, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one brother, Carl. He was preceded in death by his parents.
