SAD DEATH of Mrs. John Fryman, A Pioneer of Thompson Township
Mrs. John Fryman, an old and highly respected citizen of Thompson Township, died at her home Feb. 23, at the age of 91 years, 10 months, and 29 days. She was born in Westmoreland County Pennsylvania, March 25, 1811, and emigrated from there to Muskingum County Ohio, with her parents in 1815, where she resided during her childhood days. In 1831 she was united in marriage to A.A. Spicer. To this union was born 13 children; 6 sons and 7 daughters, 8 of whom are now living.
In the spring of 1843 the family moved to Union County. When they came to this, then new country, her husband had only 27 ½ cts. They withstood all the hardships of pioneer life and she did her full share of hard labor to make this beautiful country what it now is. Her husband died in 1878.
She was again married in 1882 to John Fryman of Delaware County, Ohio, who died about the year 1892. At the age of 16 years she joined the Disciple Church. She was a kind open hearted old lady, always tender to the sick and unfortunate. When the end came it was peaceful like the sun going down on a clear evening. She leaves 52 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, making a total number of 125 living descendants.
Funeral services were held at York Presbyterian Church Feb. 25 at 2 o'clock p.m. conducted by Rev. N.Y. Mathews.
