The following was written about Joshua Knight and Molly Spence in the Bartow County Heritage Book Vol 1, Page 173
by Dorothy Knight Brooke

Joshua was born in Halifax Co, NC. He took care of his mother, Frances and young brother Daniel after Meredith's death. He served in the War of 1812 as a private in a company commanded by Capt Edwin King of Green County. He served 6 months under Capt Henry Lane in 1814. He was discharged in 1815 at Ft Hawkins, under Commander Ed Jones. He also served under Commander McIntosh. Then he joined the Georgia Militia in Morgan County, and was elected Lieutenant for the 282nd District until 1818 when he was elected Captain.

In 1816 he was elected Justice of the Peace.

His wife Mary (Polly) Spence Knight was a sister of George Spence, and a sister of Varches Spence Nally of Morgan County. Varches later lived in Cass (now Bartow) County, Georgia. Soon after Joshua and Mary married, they sold their land in Morgan County. They moved to Stamp Creek area, while the Indians were there. He bought 40 acres of land. He processed wood into charcoal.

Joshua died in Etowah, GA on May 10, 1849 from small pox and was buried in the Pest House Cemetery.
Mary applied for a land bounty in 1850 and received 160 acres.

They had eleven children. Some of his grandchildren in Bartow County were James Monroe Knight, John Tedford Knight and Mary Knight. Several of his descendents are living in Bartow County now. Some went to AL, TX, and CA
