Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, Marie Hudspeth Bales, 93, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 12, 2011 in Cedar City, Utah. She was born on October 3, 1917 in Floydada, Texas to William and Susan Fox Hudspeth. She attended high school in Abilene, Texas. She met the great love of her life, Charles E. Bales in Oklahoma and married on August 31, 1940 in Abilene, Texas. Together this union was blessed with two wonderful children: Leonard "Joe" and Kenneth W. Also she felt blessed to have been a true and faithful sister to her nephew, William "Bud" Jones.

Marie loved each and every community in which she ever lived. She was active and always had a strong desire to give back, involving herself heavily in the Elks organization and was a proud member of the Elks Emblem Club. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church.

Marie loved to read and spend time with her family. She always considered her greatest and most enjoyable calling to be "G.G." – a loving and kind grandmother and great grandmother to her seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She adored and loved each and every member of her family. She will be dearly missed by them and many friends and acquaintances she knew and loved in this life.

She is survived by her children, Leonard "Joe" (Donna) of Enoch, Utah, Kenneth (Maria) of Vallejo, California and her special nephew William "Bud" (Babs) Jones of Pullup, Washington. Also her seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. We are certain a joyous reunion is taking place in heaven as Marie is reunited and preceded in death by her husband, Charles, her parents and three older sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 North 300 West, Cedar City, Utah. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services on Thursday from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. also at the mortuary. Internment will be at the Enoch City Cemetery, all under the direction of the Southern Utah Mortuary.
