3 Brothers Laid to Rest Side by Side
Brookfield - Three brothers who were killed in a fiery van crash in central Illinois Jan. 27 were laid to rest alongside each other Friday in Wisconsin Memorial Park.
"They were great kids and I don't think any of won't be missing them," said Ann Harrison, an aunt of 15-year old Joseph Burlingame, 12-year old Benjamin, and 10-year old Aaron.
Their father, Tim, grew up in Hales Corners and wa a 1972 graduate of Whitnall High School. The family now lives in the Urbana, IL area.
The brothers were returning home from basketball games when their church van skidded on ice, struck an oncoming bus and burst into flames.
"They really enjoyed basketball," Harrison said.
"They were always playing basketball by the hoop in their front yard. They loved sports."
The burial in Wisconsin followed funeral serves in Urbana.
Also killed in the accident were the Rev. Jesse Dean Hughes, 26, the bus driver and basketball coach;
Joseph Franklin, 12, of Urbana;
Joel Stephen, 15,and Christopher Orwig, 11, both of Champaign, IL.
Hughes was associate pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Urbana and the boys were all members of the Church's Christian Academy basketball team.
The boys' father, Tim Burlingame, an associate Baptist pastor, met his wife, Terri, who is also a Wisconsin native at Maranatha Bible College in Watertown shortly afater he graduated from high school. Their oldest son, Joseph was born in Watertown, family members said.
Benjamin and Aaron were born in Wyoming.
