Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Village Chapel for James H.D. "Don" Allen, 77, of Gadsden, who died March 12, 2012.
The Rev. Todd Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Village Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Allen retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel with 23 years service. He was a graduate of Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn) in 1958, received a Masters Degree in 1969 from Georgia Tech and later graduated from the Army Command and General Staff College in 1974.

Don taught at Jacksonville State University for 12 years and worked numerous years for Avondale Mills. He was an avid traveler, camper and loved to take cruises. Don also enjoyed researching family history and genealogy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Eugene Allen; mother, Nettie Lois Belcher; stepfather, Raymond Belcher;
daughter, Donna Lynn Allen; and sister, Lee Ann Franklin.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Johnson Allen; daughter, Kimberly Allen (Bryan) Greene; son, Stephen Troy (Lorinda Christine) Allen; grandchildren, Justin Greene, Kaia Greene, Donovan Greene, Shae Greene, Finn Allen, Megan Tindale and Lorinda Allen-Adams; great-grandchildren, Drake Tindale, Talia Tindale; brothers and sisters, Barbara (Dale) Garrison, Nickie (Dave) Hicks, Mac (Susan) Mullican, Buddy (Donna) Belcher, Hank (Judy) Belcher; best friend, Joe Sauro.il the time of service.
