The information above was taken from Danny Vines' obituary from Berryhill Funeral Home, Huntsville, Alabama, and from family information.

The following is from a personal email from Danny's mother, Mrs. Peggy Carrigan, to me not very long after his death, which is shared here with her permission:

Danny was born in Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama, and died in Lincoln County, Tennessee. He died at home, with family with him. Danny found out he had STAGE 4 LUNG Cancer about a year and a half ago. He had chemo, some radiation, a port put in surgically, twice, because the doctor didn't get it right the first time. He had his lungs drained of fluid, and started going into shock, because the fluid was drained too fast. Then, he had a surgical procedure done, where talc was sprayed between the sac around his lungs, to keep his lungs from producing so much fluid, and a large tube was inserted from inside to outside his side for drainage. The quality of life was pretty bad for him.

Danny loved the outdoors. He had a concrete business, that he had built into a pretty good business, because of his pride in his business, and honesty with his customers. He loved animals, and fed the deer, squirrels, wild turkeys, racoons, and birds in his back yard. A three-legged dog came to his house, so he took him in, and gave him loving care, even carrying him to his bedroom at night, because the dog could not walk on the floor from the living room to the bedroom. Altogether, Danny was in the concrete business for about 40 years. He worked for his dad to learn the business, started his own business as a concrete finisher, and eventually started pumping concrete, He worked very hard at the business, sometimes working until late at night, and going all over Alabama. He was always there for his family, helping them out financially.

Danny had met a young girl, when they were both about 16 years of age, and fell in love. Danny wanted to marry her. She was pregnant with his child, but her parents an her old boyfriend convinced her to marry her old boyfriend, and tell everyone that the baby was his. Danny's Dad lived in California, so Danny decided to go there, but left broken-hearted. He worked with his dad, learning the concrete business, mostly in the summer but he also did carpentry, to fill in, when he wasn't doing concrete work. He worked as a chef in the winter, mostly, and did quite well. His dad and stepmother moved back to Huntsville, and he died of leukemia. Danny went to Huntsville to see his dad before he died.

After Danny found out he had cancer, his old love called him, and they fell in love again. He commuted to Minnesota to see her, and his daughter, and two granddaughters. He paid for her tickets to fly out to see him, also for his daughter. He was the happiest he had been in his whole life, he said. His daughter, her husband, and his granddaughters drove out for the funeral, and the love of his life flew out. Danny was cremated, and his ashes were given to her, as this was his request.

Danny had two children by someone else, but they never got married. He paid support for them and they wanted money very often, which he always gave them, plus he paid for them to visit him. Eventually, Jason moved here, and lived with Danny until he got a job at Wal-Mart, and rented an apartment. Danny gave him the car that he had the accident in, and was killed. This happened 5 days before Danny died. He was being cared for by Hospice, and was in the dying stage, so he never knew his son had died so tragically. Jason's memorial was on Sunday night, and Danny's was on Tuesday night. Jason was born in Lompoc, Santa Barbara, California, and died in Lincoln County, Tennessee. His sister is Alicia Adele Vines, and she has 3 boys, Cloud, Zack and Jamison. Jason's mother is Roberta David.

Danny's Dad was John Allen Vines and his stepmother was Rose Mary Marthowski. John and I divorced in California. He married Rose in Lompoc, Santa Barbara County, California, and married Sandra Wade in Lompoc, also, divorced her later. He is buried in Huntsville Memorial Gardens, Memorial #57441303. Birth, March 10, 1938 in Opp, Covington County, Alabama, Death, September 4, 1991, Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama.
