Debra McAlexander Chaney, 56, of Bassett, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at her home. She was born in Martinsville on July 20, 1958, to Haywood and Hilda McAlexander of Bassett. Debra was a charter member of Christian Faith Baptist Church, a pianist for 40 years, and was a special education teacher who became National Board certified in 2013.
Debra was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Harry and Rachel Mitchell and her paternal grandparents, Elzie and Fannie McAlexander.
In addition to her parents Debra is survived by her loving husband, Jim Chaney of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Nikki Chaney of Collinsville; a daughter, Amanda Chaney of Martinsville; a granddaughter, Sheridan Chaney of Collinsville; a sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Posey Turner of Collinsville; a niece, Chelsea Turner of Collinsville and a nephew, Chris Turner of Orlando, Florida.
The family received friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Saturday, May 23, 2015, in the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. A funeral service was held at 2 pm on Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Christian Faith Baptist Church with Pastor George Smith officiating. Burial followeddcscvxccc in the Chaney Family Cemetery.
