Doug was the son of Herman Askew Sr and Mary Lee Askew. He was educated in the Houston County School System. He was employed with the Western Auto of Perry, Georgia for a number of years. He was the owner and operator of the Perry Bicycle Shop for many years. He was an expert in lawn morrow repair. He was also a well known disc jockey under the handle of "DJ DOUG". He was a member of Green Grove Baptist Church in Elko, Georgia.
He was married to Bonita Askew. He was preceded in death by 1 brother; Danny J. Askew and 1 sister; Johnnie Mae Askew.

2 Daughters: Laquida Owens and Natasha Duhart(Donte).
