William Augustus Robbins was born in Babylon, NY to Pauline Wheeler Lockwood Robbins. He moved to the west coast where he was raised in the San Francisco area. From 1910-1914 William was a student at the University of California at Berkeley and received his degree in Civil Engineering. He was close to his half sister Ida Lockwood Cerf who lived in the area. William moved to the Territory of Hawaii where he became a clerk for the Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company (See the following website for the history of the company during his time there as a clerk: http://www.hcsugar.com/hist_hcs.html.)In 1917 he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he became a 2nd Lieutenant for Company B in Honolulu, T.H. at Schofield Barracks. In 1924 William returned to San Francisco. By 1929 he met and married Fannie Harriet Love who graduated from Syracuse University. William was called Robbie and was a land surveyor in the Islip, NY area. During World War II he worked for the Grumman Aircraft Company on Long Island. His life was cut short in 1948 with intestinal cancer. He was remembered as a kind and loving husband by Fannie, kind and loving father by his son Kenneth Charles, and many relatives in New York.
