Mary was the eldest daughter, and the third of nine children born to William F. and Louisa Kroening Pupp. At twenty years of age Mary married Joseph Grinker whose sister Agnes was already the wife of Mary's oldest brother Albert. Mary lived her adult life with Joseph in the Chicago area. The couple never had children but doted on their many nieces and nephews. After 56 years of marriage Joe died in 1985. Mary suffered with Alzheimers the last years of her life and died at the age of 84.
