She was the daughter of Roy and the late Anna Mae Shoate. She was educated in the Poteau School system. She attended the Carl Albert Junior College in Poteau. After her marriage, she moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas and united with the Campbell chapel AME Church. She served as President of Stewardess Board #2, Sunday School teacher of the Primary Class. She was also Treasurer of the Missionary Society, co-worker of the YPD and assistant secretary to Campbell Chapel, where she served dilligently and untiringly.
