"The funeral for Gerald E. Bentz, 74, of Fremont will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran in Fremont.
He died Wednesday, Mary 15, 1996 at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.
Bentz was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Wisner. As a child, he moved to Fremont, and then moved to Norfolk where he graduated from Norfolk High School in 1941. He married Gertrude Schafersman Aug. 31, 1941, in Tekamah. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II in Iceland. After the service, he moved to Fremont. He retired from Mutual of Omaha in 1984, after working there for 26 years.
He was the coordinator of yearly reunions for the Doolittle Raiders for more than 25 years. He was a member of First Lutheran in Fremont, Fremont Lodge 15 AF&AM, Tangier Temple Shrine, Fremont Shrine Club and Jesters.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Ellen (Mrs. Robert) Maxwell of Dallas, and Cindy (Mrs. Michael) Coffman of Fremont; a son, Gregory of Overland Park, Kan.; two sisters, Doris McAllister and Wilma Child, both of Hemit, Calif.; three brothers Harold Bentz of Ontario, Ore., Kenneth Bentz of Independence, Mo., and Richard Bentz of Lakeside, Wis.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Mark Grorud will officiate Friday's service. Visitation will be 3-9 tonight at Lattin-Dugan-Chambers Funeral Home in Fremont. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
A memorial has been established to Memorial Hospital Foundation."
