John William Coleman was the first child born to Joseph E. and Ella Ackerly Coleman. When he was a toddler they moved from Tenn. to Chester, Kent Island, Queen Anne Co., Md. where the rest of his brothers and sisters were born. After his father died in 1898, his mother was married to Capt. Samuel Henry in 1900, and the family went to live in Baltimore. He was taken into the firm of Henry Bros. and Co. which his step father had cofounded. His wife's name was Lotta (Lottie) and they had a son, John W. Jr., and a daughter, Lelia. He continued to work in the importing, commission merchant and wholesale grocery business until his death.He died of coronary disease at age 56.
Unfortunately, a marker was never placed on his gravesite where his wife is also buried.
