Donald G. Armstrong, 93, of Centralia died at 12:15 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 19, 2017) at Fireside House in Centralia.

Burial will be at the Hurricane Cemetery, Charleston. Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Sept. 20, 1923, in Lerna, the son of George and Ruth (York) Armstrong. He married Ada Marie Smith on Dec. 23, 1981, in Charleston; she survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Debra Ward of Springfield; one son, Steven Armstrong and wife Lori of Charleston; one brother, Paul Armstrong of Marana, Ariz.; stepson Charles Kretzer and wife Karen of Bartlesville, OK; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 7 stepgrandchildren; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren; and 2 stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Armstrong; brother, Raymond Armstrong; grandson, Jeremy Ward; and stepson, Steve Kretzer.

Mr. Armstrong was an Army veteran of World War II. He retired from Brown Shoe Factory and from the telephone company in Mattoon. He attended Baptist Faith Church and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was a member of the Moose, Elks and American Legion.
