Mrs. Balch died in a hospital in Oklahoma City Thursday evening. She and her husband had gone to Oklahoma City to visit their son, Lemuel Balch before he was called overseas for duty. Sevices for Mrs. J.R. Balch were held in the First Baptist Church in Seymour. Services were officiated by Dr. Fred C. Eastham, pastor of First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, Rev. W.H. Townsend, pastor of First Baptist Church in Olney. Mrs. Balch had not lived in many places, and her most gracious experiences have been those connected with her Christian work. She has been one of the leaders in the Baptist faith. She grew to womanhood on the farm in Tarrant County where she was born in the Dido Community. She married Rev. J.R. Balch in Dido on 5 February 1912. Brother Balch had gone to the community as a boy preacher when he first met the young lady who would become his life companion. After completing the schools of her community, Mrs. Balch attended Polytechnic College in Fort Worth. Rev and Mrs. Balch's first church was in Tahoka. In January 1914, they moved to Matador then in August of 1919, Rev. Balch was called to First Baptist Church in Seymour. Mrs. Balch was converted at an early age and joined the church. Survivors include her husband; four sons; brothers and sisters.
