James Francis and family started from old England for America - September 5, 1853 - arriving in New York on October 24, 1853. "May God Bless Us All with Long and Happy Lives in America." James Francis was a showmaker, not a cobbler as we know them today. He made very fine boots and shoes only as ordered and by measure, the finest kind of workmanship. They stayed in New York only a little while, then went to Belvidere, Illinois.
James and Anna had the following seven children:
Anna Lelia F. - b. July 11, 1836
James F. - b. Nov 18, 1838
William F. - b. Sep 15 1840
Walter F. - b. Oct 25, 1842
Elizabeth F. - b. Aug 11, 1845
Frederick F. - b. Feb 22, 1850
Mary Jane F. - b. June 25, 1852
It is believed James died in Belvidere about 1855 and Anna died about 1866.
It may not be that any marker has survived for this pioneer father's final resting place.
