Mrs. Lois Wainright Wagner Cannon, 78, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery.

A native and lifelong resident of Pitt County, Lois had made her home in Winterville since 1978. She was employed as bookkeeper and office manager by Sunnyside Eggs for 12 years and later worked as a bookkeeper for Eastern Carolina Vocational Center for 12 years prior to her retirement in 1995. She was a member of Immanuel Free Will Baptist Church in Winterville. She taught Sunday school for more than 40 years and had been active in the Ladies Auxiliary.

Mrs. Cannon was preceded in death by her parents, Jennis L. and Minnie Horne Wainright; first husband, William Frank Wagner; son, Leo Cannon Jr.; brother, Jennis E. Wainright; and a sister, Polly W. Hardee.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Leo Cannon; daughter, Pamela W. Murphy, of Kingston Springs, Tenn.; sons, Kevin F. Wagner, of Grifton, and Donald Cannon, of Greenville; brother, the Rev. Dannie A. Wainright, of Darlington, S.C.; sister, Jo W. Gillin; daughter in-law, Pat Cannon, both of Greenville; brother in-law, JC Cannon and wife, Matt; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
