Mrs. Elizabeth "Lib" Vandiford Boyd, 88, went to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011. The funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.

Born to Matthew and Katie Davenport Vandiford, Mrs. Boyd, was a native of Greene County. She lived most of her adult life in the Ham's Crossroads community of Pitt County and was a member of Black Jack Original Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Boyd taught Sunday school and was a member of the Ladies Sunday school Class, Adults Ladies Auxiliary, Julia Smith Ladies Sunday School Class, and Senior Adult Golden Group.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Thurman, on July 8, 1999; three sisters; and two brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Wilson and husband, Charlie, of Plymouth; grandsons, Wally Wilson and wife, Susan, of Hampton, S.C., and Chris Wilson and wife, Shelly, of Lebanon, Tenn.; three very special great-grandchildren, Avery and Rory Wilson, of Lebanon, Tenn., and Cooper Wilson, of Hampton, S.C.; sisters, Addie Gatlin and husband, Jim, of Goldsboro, Sandra Jones and husband, Lyman, of Albemarle, Dorothy Chapplear, of Farmville, Barbara Shaut and husband, Dale, of Lucama, Kay Kilpatrick and husband, Mike, of Washington, N.C., and Lou Banta and husband, Paul, of Blounts Creek; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Building Fund, Black Jack OFWB Church, 2972 Black Jack-Simpson Road, Greenville, NC 27858. Online condolences at www.wilkersonfuneralhome.com.
