Earl J. Aasen, 86, of Sioux City died Tuesday, 18 July 2006, at his residence after a long illness.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel, with the Rev. Michael J. Schmidt pastor of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Earl J. Aasen was born 23 Nov. 1919, in Sioux City, the son of John & Elene B. (Grostad) Aasen. He attended East High School in Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in France & the European Theater.
He married Mabyn Ann Johnson on 29 April 1949, in Hartington, Neb. She died on 30 June 1991, in Sioux City. He was a Teamster & truck driver for more than 30 years. He retired in 1977. He was a member of the Teamster's Union, Riverside Lutheran Church & the VFW. He was a former member
of Riverside Masonic Lodge No. 662 & the Wrecking Crew of the Abu Bekr Shrine.
He enjoyed camping, wood-working, making wood pieces for friends & family & playing cribbage. Earl was a lifelong resident of Sioux City.
Survivors include 2 sons & their wives, Allan & Debra Aasen of Marion, Iowa & John & Roxanne Aasen of Fort Worth, Texas; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; & a brother & his wife, Lloyd & Ruth Aasen of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a daughter, Candice Aasen; 2 brothers, Norman & Vernon Aasen; & a sister, Lillian Villim.
Pallbearers are John R. Aasen, Jeffrey Aasen, Michael Aasen & Heather Shackelford.
