Moses was the son of Pierre "Peter" and Theresa LaPointe Barrette born in Prairie du Chien, Crawford Co. WI. Siblings were Peter, Antoine, Polite "Paul", Henry, Margaret, Philomena and Pauline Barrette.

Moses was wed to Miss Emma Grace Johnson on September 30. 1867 in Grant Co. WI. She was the daughter of Lucius and Elizabeth Alvira Bagley Johnson. Moses and Emma became the parents of Nellie Mae, Frank O., Charles Benjamin, Pearl Nettie and Claude Barrette.

Moses served his country during the Civil War, Company D, 31st Wisconsin Infantry. Moses passed on January 6, 1916, in Codington Co. SD - Emma Grace on March 12, 1921, in Codington Co.SD.
