Sylvanus P. 'Bud' Baker Jr., 86

LAUREL -- Sylvanus "Bud" P. Baker Jr., 86, of Laurel, passed away Oct. 3, 2008, at Lifecare at Lofland Park in Seaford. He was born in Whaleysville, Md., son of the late Sylvanus P. Baker, Sr. and Della Cullen Baker. Mr. Baker was the former owner of Briarwood Estates and after retirement opened the Classic Toy Box in Lewes. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Millsboro. He also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Virgil Wilson Post 7234 Mason-Dixon Post in Ocean View. Bud was an avid baseball fan, especially of the Baltimore Orioles. He enjoyed playing bingo and traveling with his late wife. He is survived by his son, Sylvanus "Van" Baker, III of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Christopher Nee of St. Petersburg, whom he considered a son. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie L. "Betty" Baker, in January 2008. Funeral services will be held at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel, on Tuesday at 2 p.m. A viewing will be held at the funeral home this evening from 7-8:30 pm. The Pastor Ken Deusa will officiate. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel.
