Paul Albert was a long-time professor of Mathematics at Miami University beginning in 1923, a year before he earned his bachelors degree. He also taught and coached football at the McGuffey School in Oxford and retired from Miami in 1962, earning emeritus status. He earned a MA degree at Ohio State and studied at Princeton and the University of Chicago. He was also a registered civil engineer and served as Miami University's surveyor, helping with a number of large construction projects. Miami President Millett gave Paul Albert significant credit for his advice and counsel as a distinct factor in determining the quality and appearance of the campus. He served on the Oxford Board of Public Affairs for 25 years and also served as Village Engineer. He belonged to the Oxford Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge 67 and Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. The Phi Kappa Tau Foundation's former office building at 14 North Campus Avenue was called the J. Paul Albert building in recognition a significant gift to assist with its purchase.
He was Oxford Citizen of the Year in 1966.
He was married to Lillian Shortridge Albert who survived him, as did three grandchildren. His sister and a son, John Paul Albert II (Duke) preceded him in death. A seminar room in Bachelor Hall and the J. Paul Albert and John P. Albert Mathematics Scholarship are also named for him.
Memorial services were held for him on Jan. 29, 1986 in Sun City, AZ where the Alberts spent the winter. A service was also held at Miami's Sesquicentennial Chapel on March 20, 1986.
He was Oxford Citizen of the Year in 1966.
