George Owen Abney, beloved husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and brother-in-law passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at the age of 79.

George was born in Nome, Texas on July 18, 1932 and grew up in BURKEVILLE, Texas.

He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He worked in the Laboratory at DuPont Beaumont Works for 20 years, later retiring from the insurance business.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ray, Sr. and Nina Abney, brothers, Ray (FAG mem 57029243) and Joseph Abney (FAG mem 39774011) and sister, Lola Abelman (FAG mem 70560045).

His surviving family includes his wife of 46 years, Carolyn of Montgomery, Texas, his daughter, Dena of Houston, Texas, his son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Stacey of Lewisville, Texas, his grandchildren Lauren, Wade, Kalyn and Kennedye of Lewisville, his brother-in-law Jim Holbrook of Montgomery, sister-in-law Linda Person of The Woodlands, Texas and several nieces and nephews.

George had many hobbies and interests that included water skiing, motorcycles, snow skiing and most recently was an avid fan of Nascar with Jeff Gordon #24 being his favorite driver.

George never met a stranger and enjoyed working with and helping people in any way he could. He was a 32nd degree Mason for more than 50 years. During that time he belonged to the Mid Jefferson County Shrine Club and a member of the Nem Loof Clowns. He was a past Master of Montgomery Lodge No. 25.

A memorial service will be held at 11am Saturday, July 21, 2012 to celebrate his life at Montgomery United Methodist Church, 22548 Hwy 105 West, Montgomery, Texas.
