Violet E. Aman Obituary
Violet had varied careers
Violet E. Aman worked as a teacher, nurses aide, later as a surgical technician and finally as a barber before she retired. In addition, she had a wealth of hobbies and sidelines. She crocheted, did oil painting, loved to fish and camp, tackle crossword puzzles, read and do a lot of bird watching. She was also skilled at canning, so much so that she became noted for it.

She and her husband, Alvin, moved to Aberdeen, SD in 1959 from Pollock, SD. They continued to live in Aberdeen after retiring. Violet, who had been in failing health, died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen. She was 67.

She was born January 25, 1934, to Henry and Lydia (Kunz) Geigle in Sioux county, ND. She grew up in the area and graduated from McLaughlin, SD High School. She then attended Valley City State Teachers College in Valley City, ND.

Following her graduation, she taught at a rural country school in the Selfridge, ND area for a period of time.

On February 8, 1953, Violet and Alvin E. Aman were married in Springfield , TN. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Pollock area. After their move to Aberdeen, she worked at St. Luke's Hospital as an aide and then for a number of years as a surgical technician. She then became a barber and worked with her husband.

She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, a member of the Altar Guild, and was active in a women's circle in the church.

Survivors are her husband, Alvin, of Aberdeen; one son, Patrick Aman and his wife Lynn of Aberdeen; one daughter, Mrs. Curt (Pamela) Schumack of Aberdeen; four brothers, Iery Geigle and wife Ruth of Osburn, ID; Herbert Geigle and wife, Violet of McIntosh, SD; Richard Geigle and wife, Darlys, of McLaughlin, SD; and Erwin Geigle and wife, Janet, of Mandan, ND; seven sisters, Mrs. Phillip (Elizabeth) Huber of McIntosh, SD; Lorraine Snyder of Mandan, ND; Alvina Tscherney of McLaughlin, SD; Irene Hach of Minneapolis, MN; Mrs. Marvin (Delores) Knuth of Rapid City, SD; Mrs. Orville (Mae) Harris of Rapid City, SD; and Mrs. James (Darlene) Henson of McLaughlin, SD; and two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and her parents.

Funeral services for Violet were this morning (Wednesday, June 27, 2001), at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. The Rev. Allan Schoonover officiated. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen under the direction of Miller-Huebel Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Casketbearers were Dana Aman, Ray Nel Huber, Craig Hach, Burt Flagtwet, Denny Hanson, and Shane Reich.
