Son of plantation owner and Civil War Col. Alexander Robert Chisolm and Helen Schieffelin. Husband of Mary Lockwood Boardman, married 8 Jun 1901. Father of Frances Schieffelin Chisolm [Mrs Clifford B. McAvoy] and Helen S. Boardman Chisolm [Mrs Calvin Tompkins]. He graduated from Yale in 1897 and was a lawyer. He was a member of Squadron A and the Union Club.

"Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the family residence 1337 Lexington Avenue, for Richard S. Chisolm, lawyer and manufacturer, who died suddenly yesterday of pneumonia. He was 50 years old. He was president of the United Metal Manufacturing Company of Norwich, CT and was at one time editor of the Railroad Gazetter. For the past thirteen years he had been secretary and treasurer of the State Construction Company. Mr. Chisolm is survived by his widow and two daughters."
