David C. Baird, 81 years of Midland, died Friday evening, December 22, 1995, at his home. He was born on April 12, 1914 in Bay City, son of the late Robert J. and Marion (Heisner) Baird and grandson of Michigan State Senator John Baird. David attended school's in Saginaw, graduating from Saginaw High School in 1932, he then went on, to attend Michigan State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics/Chemistry in 1936. After graduating from college, David worked for the Michigan Sugar Company as an accountant, until 1940 where he went to serve his country as a captain in infantry in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Baird then went to work with the Dow Chemical Company from 1944 until his retirement in 1977, during this time he ascended from Statistical Analyst to Corporate Price Administrator and finally to the position of Director of Corporate Purchasing. He married the former Susan Ann Way on April 8, 1953. David was a member of the Midland Rotary Club, Midland Country Club, the Saginaw Club and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was active in Catholic Family services and had served on its board for many years, he also was on the board of Junior Achievements of Midland and was on the Board of Directors for Dow Chemical Company. David enjoyed trout fishing, gardening and reading. David C. Baird was a great husband and father and will be sadly missed by his wife, Susan of Midland, son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Kathy Baird of Traverse City; daughter, Mary P. Baird of Jackson; and nephew Retired Colonel Kenneth Baird of Colorado Springs, CO. Mr. Baird was predeceased by one brother, Robert J. Baird Jr. in 1984.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 26, 1995, from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Midland. Rev. Father John R. Johnson and Rev. Father Henry P. DuRussel with officiate with burial to follow in St. Andrews Cemetery in Saginaw. Mr. Baird's family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Michigan Parkinson Foundation or Catholic Family Services. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Directors, Midland.
