James Grover Almond was known by the name "Grover" by all who knew him and served in the Coast Guard during his military service. His parents were James A. Almond and "Donie" Raines, both were born in Arkansas. He married Mrs. Anna Catherine Theis Reed on January 13, 1918 in De Witt, Arkansas. No children were born out of their marriage. Grover was united with the Baptist church when he was 17, and was licensed to preach February 9, 1937, and was ordained March 21, 1943 by the Forks of La Grue Missionary Baptist Church Council of Ordination. At the time of his death he was the pastor of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church at Tichnor. He was 62 yrs., 0 mos., 13 days, when he died on 19 August 1953 at his home. Funeral services were conducted at Forks La Grue Baptist Church by Elders W. T. Fielder and O. W. Adams. Surviving him were his widow, Mrs. Anna Almond, a sister, Mrs. Estella Marrs, a step-daughter, Mrs. Ruby Katherine "Katie" Reed Watkins, eight step-grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
