Obituary from the Monroe Evening News, Aug 16, 1934:
Carleton---Mrs. Floyd Barnum died suddenly at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday [15th] at her home two miles east of the village on the Carleton-South Rockwood road. She had been joking and visiting with Mr. Barnum and a neighbor on the front porch of the home at 11:30 a.m. Mr. Barnum went with Charles VanImschoot to a farm across the road to inspect a well and had been gone less than an hour. When he returned he found his wife lying on the couch in the living room unconscious. From indications she had started to get the dinner. Dr. Newcomb was called but nothing could be done.
Mable Deppen, daughter of Charles and Rhoda (McLaughlin) Deppen, was born a half mile west of the village on the Burgess road, March 22, 1881 and later moved with her parents to the village where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Floyd Barnum of Ash township, March 22, 1909, and from that time has lived on the Barnum farm. She was the mother of three children, two dying in babyhood, the only surviving daughter being Mrs. Alberta Kahlbaum, of Monroe. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Walter Burkhart of Detroit and Mrs. Frank Woodward of Carleton and one brother, William J. Deppen of Carleton.
For some time Mrs. Barnum has not been feeling at her best but her condition was not thought serious.
The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and at 2 p.m. at the Carleton Evangelical Church. The Rev. Walton Crothers will officiate at the services and burial will be in the Carleton cemetery.

A humorous story involving Mable can be found on the memorial for her sister Mary (Deppen) Woodward.
