John Henry Akers, age 40, died late Sunday evening at the University of Missouri Medical Center in Columbia, Missouri as a result of injuries suffered in a fire on January 2.

Mr. Akers was born April 27, 1937, in Colorado, the son of John Wesley and Bessie (Parker) Akers.

He was married to Dixie Jewell (Gray) Akers on June 12, 1959 in Fulton.

Mr. Akers played in several country and western bands in Callaway County, Missouri for several years. Most recently he was playing with Curt McDonald's Renegades.

Mr. Akers was a member of the Rock Spring Babtist Church at Maples, Missouri.

Survivors include his wife of nineteen years, Dixie; father and mother; a son, Joseph of the home; a daughter, Pamela of the home four brothers, Ed and Ben of Steedman, Missouri, Tom of St. Louis, Missouri and Bill of Licking, Missouri; a sister, Hazel Gerrand of New Bloomfield, Missouri and a half-brother, Eugene Wals.

Services will be conducted by the Reverand Nelson Schuester at 2PM, Wednesday at Browning-Debo Funeral Chapel in Fulton. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call at Browning-Debo Funeral Home after 2:PM today.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the John Akers Fund at the Callaway Bank.
