Lawrence Achterhof, 85, of Sioux Cenbter died Monday, August 28, at Sioux Center community Health Center.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Arbold Punt officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Achterhof was born May 1, 1915, in Sioux Center, the son of Ralph and Maggie (Van Kley) Achterhof. He married Jeannette Van Otterloo on October 25, 1935. He was involved in the real estate business, insurance business and served as an income tax consultant.
He was very active in the community, serving as a hospital executive board member, scoutmaster and served on the districk scout council. He was a member of First Reformed Church and served as a Sunday School teacher and on various boards and committees.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Bev and Mike Rohl of Denver, Colorado; two sons, Roger and Carole Achterhof of Spirit Lake and the Rev. Doug. and Karen Achterhof Wellman; nine grandchildren Dane and Cheryl DeKock of Des Moines, Doug DeKock of Prairie City, Kristin Achterhof of Chicago, Illinois, Linda and James Davis of Providence, Rhode Island, Marta Achterhof of Spirit Lake, Lona Achterhof of Pahrump, Nevada, Tara and Victor Garrett of Walker, Missouri,Troy and Robin Achterhof of Brookings, South Dakota and Kley Achterhof of Denver.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daugher and her husband Dee and Duane DeKock; one granddaughter and an infant sister, Nelvia.
